The Roanoke River has been placed on the list of the top ten most endangered rivers in the US. The risk of potential harm to this river is so substantial that even before any vote is cast all eyes are turned to the Virgina legislature. Are they going to be predictably bought off?
As opposition to lifting the ban increased late last year (2011), a vote to postpone a real vote on the issue was agreed upon easily. History is not on the side of the people or the environment. The recent trips to France to visit a closed uranium mine in a region that has never experienced a hurricane is not a reasonable comparison and those legislators who may have been influenced by the extravagant trips will be the ones with the power to sell us all down the river.
